The Capsule Wardrobe: A Series Episode 3

I have nothing to wear”, something we've all said before, the solution; a capsule wardrobe. In the last episode post we talked about the basic items that should be included in the capsule. If you haven't already read episode one or two - click these links.

Episode 1 and Episode 2

However, all these items are of neutral colours and shades like white, black and grey for the purposes of versatility and timelessness. But some may argue that this is yes, a versatile wardrobe foundation but also a 'boring’ one.

With this in mind this episode is about adding pieces to your capsule wardrobe that adds colour however, still complement the existing basics we spoke about in episode two.

First of all, let's talk about the colours on trend currently for this autumn season. Inspired by Vogue, the latest runway trends and the fall 2022 pantone colours.

  1. Intense Lava Red/Cherry Reds.

  2. Forest/Emerald Greens.

  3. Bright/Petrol Blues.

  4. Burnt Oranges/Muted Yellows (with burnt orange having a comeback from last year, as a major trend last autumn!)

  5. Fushia/Barbie Pink.

These colours are the most easily added through use of accessories such as a pair of heels, a bag or (for the extra cold days) a scarf or hat. Incorporating these coloured accessories with the muted neutrals and shades of the basics will elevate your look.

Here is an example from again @missfernandez__, adding a red shoe to elevate basics:

So, if you are lost on how to add colour to your capsule wardrobe then start with adding small, coloured accessories in the 'in colours' which can be easily swapped out. In the next episode we will dive into the deeper meaning of having a capsule wardrobe - for the purposes of being more sustainably fashionable.
